From August 2014, all cleaners at London South Bank University will be paid the London Living Wage (LLW). This means that instead of £6.30 per hour, everyone will paid at least £8.80 per hour. And from now on, all future cleaning contracts agreed between London South Bank University and private companies (like Interserve or ISS) will be required to pay the London Living Wage. If the London Living Wage rises again, so will your wages, and even if another cleaning company takes over at LSBU in the future, you will still be paid at least the London Living Wage.
This change has only happened because UNISON at LSBU fought for it. UNISON members in Interserve protested outside of the Technopark building; leafleted and petitioned hundreds of staff and students; and wrote to the press about the poverty pay at LSBU until the University agreed to our demand for fairer wages. There was even a piece on BBC London news about one of our protests!
